Domestic Water Recycling

The recycling of water is becoming a global issue and the UK is at the forefront of small scale greywater recycling technologies

Domestic Water Recycling

Greywater - “water originating from the mains wholesome water supply that has been used for bathing (showers or baths) and in hand basins is usually clean enough for flushing the WC, following basic treatment." BNWAT 19: Alternative sources of water – greywater and rainwater reuse: Innovation Briefing Note Version 1.3.

The UK Government’s water strategy (Future Water) document published in 2008 states that “around 7% of the water used in our homes is used for drinking and cooking. Almost one third of the water we use is, after being treated to what is among the best drinking water quality standards in the world, at significant financial and environmental cost, simply used to flush our toilets.”

Despite the fact that in the UK we seem to have more than our fair share of rainfall, continuing levels of concentrated population growth, and associated house building, are placing water resources and infrastructures under a significant amount of stress.

The HYDROCYC® was therefore developed to enable households to recycle up to 1/3 of their daily water usage – saving money and supporting the environment. Designed to fit neatly into a kitchen or utility room, the water quality has been independently verified and can handle anything thrown down the plug-hole. As part of our development activities DPS played an integral role in the development of BS 8525-1:2010 Greywater Systems - Code of Practice.

DPS has recently partnered with local company Vado to market the unit globally.
