Khurmala Dome Field Development
Case study

DPS were contracted as engineering design consultants for the all engineering disciplines involved in the project for a greenfield development in Kurdistan.

Khurmala Dome Field Development

Project Name: Khurmala Dome, Kurdistan

Client: Kar Group / SCOP

Location: Northern Iraq

Capacity: 100,00 bpd, 100 mmscfd (across 3 sites)

As the first greenfield development by the interim Iraqi Government, the location and timing of this project made this a challenging one for DPS, but was undertaken successfully to the credit of all involved.

Following the initial design stages an Iraqi delegation visited Bristol to make a series of important technical decisions that ensured the programme was not disrupted. Prompt and efficient resolutions to potential issues demonstrated our commitment to maintaining the project's momentum and continued quality.

With a finalised specification, work moved into detailed design and DPS's role was extended to oversee and manage the procurement of a number of key equipment packages, including gas compressors and power plants.

On July 18, 2009, the first oil from the Khurmala Dome Central Process Station was processed and transported by pipeline to supply the new 20,000 barrel per day Erbil Refinery.

A technical delegation from Iraq visited Bristol to expediate project decisions affected by communication issues in Iraq at the time.
